KU’s South Campus holds workshop on ‘Women, Law and Society’ | KNO

Srinagar, Apr 29 (KNO) : The Department of Education at Kashmir University's South Campus, Anantnag, in collaboration with CrossBow Miles organized a one-day workshop on “Women, Law and Society—Challenges & Issues.”

The workshop was aimed at highlighting and deliberating upon pressing issues faced by women in the society with special focus on creating awareness for women’s safety and empowerment through financial and digital literacy. CrossBow Miles is a mass outreach and engagement platform tailored for cause-driven campaigns for women empowerment and other social issues.

It is conceptualised by Srishti Bakshi who embarked on 3800-km on-foot journey across the country and has reached Kashmir for the last leg of the campaign. Speaking at the workshop, Srishti Bakshi shared with the audience her effort aimed to sensitise citizens about gender divide in the country that can be combated by empowering women with digital and financial literacy. Students, scholars and faculty members of various Departments of South Campus and Women's Study Centre, Social Works Department and Women’s College Anantnag were among those who participated in the workshop. Bilal Kaloo, Department of Education, South Campus coordinated the workshop.

Dr Ashfaq Ahmad Zarri, Director South Campus applauded Srishti for her extraordinary accomplishment to complete 3800-km walk from Kanyakumari to Kashmir along with voicing and raising awareness related to women issues. He further asserted that debates and discussions on social issues in academic institutions hold a lot of promise and potential to solve the problems faced by our society. Talish Rey and Suniti Ojha, advocates at the Supreme Court deliberated upon legal aspects related to crime against women. Mrs Gulzara Masoodi, well known social activist and Member, Jammu and Kashmir State Commission for Women, said that education is the biggest tool for women empowerment and it would bring about a lot of change in the society.
